Liverpool Need Best Atmosphere Against Man United – Klopp

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has called on fans to storm Anfield in their club shirts to create the best home atmosphere as they host Manchester United on Monday night.

Liverpool have recorded only two league wins over Manchester United in the last five years.

A defeat for Liverpool will be the first time they have lost three straight home league games to Manchester United since January 2005.

Asides the importance of the game to the club’s season ambition, Klopp is also taking the history serious and understands this is equally important to the fans.

“Apart from the table, it’s a very important game. I know about the history, I like the special stories. The whole world will watch this game, it’s a big honour to be part of it.

“At the end, it’s up to us to perform to our best. You cannot and should not ignore the special circumstance of a game like this. You have to be ready.

“They have big quality and we have to respect this, as we do. But this is Anfield. We have to show this. We have had a few nice atmospheres but I’m open for the best atmosphere. We need everybody in a Liverpool shirt in this game,” he said.

Adam Lallana is set to miss out for Liverpool after a groin problem. Georginio Wijnaldum also misses the game after he was injured playing for the Netherlands.

Defenders Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren are back in contention and fit-again Emre Can could make a first league start of the season.

Phil Jones is the only player sidelined in an otherwise fully fit Man United squad as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and defender Luke Shaw are fit for the trip to Anfield.

Jose Mourinho’s men have won only once in their last four league games, conceding seven goals.
